"Photography is not about photographs." Strong words from Dutch writer and picture-editor Eddie Marsman, who has paired up with Dutch photographer Marco Wiegers to present a special evening slideshow showcase at this year's Eighth Angkor Photo Festival
Along with Bangladeshi photographer Munem Wasif, Marsman and Wiegers have been invited as the festival's guest curators this year, and will each show their own selection of work over two evenings.
Elaborating, Marsman writes, "Photography is about the stubborn perseverance that is needed to make photographs. It’s about the stamina needed to make ideas and dreams and hunches visible to others."
The daily evening slideshows, held outdoors under the night sky, have become a major component of the festival's program.
Apart from the two evenings dedicated to the invited curators, the slideshows are curated by festival program director, Francoise Callier.
The range of work to be shown this year stretches from the best of news and photojournalism, to more conceptual and subjective bodies of work.
The first evening slideshow, on the opening day of the festival, will be held in the riverside gardens of the Raffles Grand Hotel d'Angkor
Subsequently, FCC Angkor will play host to the slideshows.
Families with kids will also be interested in the special children's edition of the slideshows to be shown on Children's Day, December 5, at Wat Athvea Pagoda.
