Firm to study proposed gas pipeline routes

The Council of Ministers has granted Petrochemicals (Cambodia) Refinery Ltd permission to conduct two feasibility studies to explore the viability of onshore and offshore gas pipelines, according to a document released yesterday.

The onshore pipeline study would cover seven provinces: Preah Sihanouk, Kompong Speu, Phnom Penh, Battambang, Siem Reap, Kompong Cham and Kandal. The proposed offshore pipeline would run from the Gulf of Thailand to Preah Sihanouk.

Dear Post Staff,

The big question is: What ever happened to the proposed refinery?

The landmark oil refinery, was to be built on 365 hectares across Kampot and Sihanoukville provinces, and was first expected to be completed in 2014, after receiving $1.67 billion in funding from the Export-Import Bank of China in December 2013.

So, was the refinery just another pipe dream?
