Van Sou Ieng was re-elected as president of the Garment Manufacturers' Association
in Cambodia (GMAC) for another two-year term on March 18. Although under frequent
criticism from unions, Ieng said Cambodia's success in exporting garment products,
worth US$2.9 billion in 2006, had resulted from GMAC's active role and the leadership
of Prime Minister Hun Sen. He promised to reduce Cambodia's high cost of export administration,
which is four to five times higher than Vietnam's.
