On June 29, the US Embassy in Phnom Penh hosted its official celebration for Independence Day – which takes place on July 4 – at the InterContinental Hotel. Nearly 800 guests attended this year’s reception, hosted by US Ambassador William A Heidt and included guests of honour such as Senior Minister in Charge of Special Projects HE Ly Thuch. The programme began with a flag ceremony by the US Embassy Marine Corps Detachment and the playing of the national anthems of Cambodia and the United States.
