Greed trumps need as ‘beggars’ rob woman

Beggars can’t be choosers, but they can be robbers, as one victim learned in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district on Monday.

According to police, the suspects pretended to be panhandlers working the roundabout at Wat Phnom.

They approached a woman and asked for 100 riel, but when she reached in her purse to hand over the money, the needy turned thieve-y and snatched her bag.

Police, however, were able to chase them down and they were sent to court. DEUM AMPIL
