Drunk man burns down his house
Police in Koh Kong province say a 26-year-old man burned down his house last week because his mother refused to give him money to continue an alcohol-fuelled bender. Police reported that the man was out drinking with his friends when he apparently ran out of booze and cash. The man’s mother and his sister went to a neighbour’s house after hearing the drunkard noisily making his way back home. When the man reached his house, police said, he demanded that his mother show her face and give him money, threatening to torch the house if she didn’t. A short time later, the house was burned.

Police in Banteay Meanchey are on the lookout for a man accused of trying to use fake money to buy goods at a local store. A local vendor reported the incident to police last Friday after the man came into her store and attempted to use four fake 10,000 riels notes (US$2.50) to buy soap and a phone card. However, the man’s efforts were thwarted when the vendor recognised the money was fake. The man ran off and police have yet to find him. In the meantime, the cops are urging local citizens to arrest the man if they see him.

Meth, not crops, for drugs farmer
A farmer in Stung Treng province stands accused of reaping a harvest of more than just crops. Provincial anti-drugs police arrested a 35-year-old farmer last Thursday after he allegedly imported almost 2,000 tablets of methamphetamine across the border from Laos.

Accused thief picks poor hiding spot
An accused thief was quickly arrested after the suspect tried to hide in a Phnom Penh hospital last week, police said. The suspect had allegedly robbed a couple sitting in front of a market in Kakab commune. A hospital security guard later found the alleged robber hiding out in Preah Kossamak Hospital. Police are still on the lookout for two other suspects who are believed to have taken part in the robbery.

Man accused of sex with young girls
A 67-year-old Battambang man was arrested after he was accused of repeatedly having sex with three young girls. Police said the girls, all between the ages of 11 and 14, complained to their mother after the man failed to give them money that he had promised them. The mother then reported the case to authorities.
