Dr. Francis Deng, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide, and Benny Widyono, former Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cambodia, will discuss the implications of the tribunal's second case this Thursday at Rutgers University, Newark. Detailed information about the event can be found here. I plan to attend and will report highlights of the conversation.

Hi Paul,

I am sorry you feel this way, and sorry for not responding sooner. As was mentioned in a recent post, we have been having technical problems and sometimes unable to post or follow-up (plus, a number of articles were deleted). Hopefully things have been worked out, although there still seem to be some glitches preventing people from accessing earlier posts.

In terms of the history of the blog, I started it in 2008 when I was on a Fulbright in Cambodia, but have since returned to the U.S. I intended it to be a forum for discussion, and have been very pleased other Post staffers have continued to contribute as time permits. I am currently pursuing a degree at Rutgers, which is one of the few U.S. universities with any connection to Cambodia, and have tried to post about forums and discussions happening here I think might be of interest. It has been my hope to keep the blog alive and at least somewhat active before the second trial starts (at which time I imagine the posting will become much more frequent). I will be returning to Cambodia on a different grant for part of the second trial, and I imagine the Post will be able to devote more resources to the blog when hearings are underway.

In the meantime, if there are any issues in particular related to the tribunal that you would like us to examine, you are very much welcome to email me at elena.lesley@gmail.com. I appreciate your passion related to this subject, which I also believe is of great historical importance.

Best, Elena

"Detailed information about the event can be found here." I am sorry but this link does not work. I also note that earlier this year your "headline" blog for some seven weeks was a notification of another similar forum at Rutgers. This entry eventually slipped away without further mention, let alone the promised reporting.

I am sorry to say this but in my opinion this blog does not meets neither the posts usual high standards of professionalism nor the worthiness of the subject. It has always been haphazared, scanty, and superficial. It has utterly failed to engage the readership in meaningful disscussion.

Love to see you do better...

Thank you
Paul Everingham, Koh Kong.
