Public hearings on Friday @ ECCC

Posted by in Untagged

For those of you who are in Phnom Penh, the court will be holding public hearings on Friday in which the pre-trial chamber judges will announce decisions against the three suspects who appealed their pre-trial detention in February (Ieng Sary, Ieng Thirith and Nuon Chea). Ieng Sary's hearing begins at 9:00 AM, followed by Khieu Samphan's at 10:30 and Ieng Thirith's at 2:00. It will assuredly be crowded, so plan on arriving at least by 8:30 if you want a seat in the public gallery.

UN court spokesman Lars Olsen says the hearings will likely last about 30-45 minutes as the judges read out their rulings. The court will be providing free transportation for those who are interested - buses leave starting at 7:30 from the Phnom Penh Railway Station. This will likely be the last time to see these Case 002 suspects in court for several months, and the last time that the court is session before the Duch verdict.
