Just over a week ago, I mentioned the buzz I had been hearing about additional suspects at the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. It appears there were indeed discussions underway, because today the Co-Prosecutors publicly disclosed that they are divided over the pursuit of additional defendants.
According to a statement from the court, on Dec. 1 the international Co-Prosecutor "filed a Statement of Disagreement between the Co-Prosecutors. ... This disagreement rests on the appropriateness of opening new judicial investigations into crimes committed in various locations throughout Cambodia by certain persons considered to be senior leaders of the Khmer Rouge or persons most responsible for crimes under that regime."
The Statement of Disagreement was given to the Office of Administration and has now been forwarded to the Pre-Trial Chamber.
Adjudication of disputes among the prosecutors are confidential, according to the court.è½
My name is Nic Dunlop and I'm a Bangkok-based photographer. I'm coming to PP next January to do a story on the tribunal and I wondered whether we could meet when I do. I should be there around the 5th for 10 days with my producer (we're doing a short film for TV).
I've been reading your blog on and off and it would be great to meet and help formulate my own thoughts about this process. I'm sure the last comment about your work made the whole thing worth it for you.
Please do let me know if you'd be willing to meet for dinner or a drink.
With best wishes,
Nic
