The court announced at yesterday’s press conference that neither nominee to replace international co-prosecutor Robert Petit would, if approved by the Supreme Council of the Magistracy, be able to begin work at the court by September 1, the day Petit’s resignation goes into effect.
The UN has forwarded a nomination for an interim replacement. The candidate will also be subject to approval by the council.
Also Wednesday, the court announced that total visitors had reached 20,250 and that last week saw more visitors – 2,176 – than any other since substantive hearings began in March. No word yet on whether Visitor No. 25,000 can expect an ECCC t-shirt and hat.
