Emerging Markets Investments Advisers (“EMIa”) is seeking talented investment professionals to join its new Myanmar, Cambodia and Singapore teams, to manage the Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar Development Fund II.


The Cambodia team currently advises the Cambodia-Laos Development Fund - a Luxembourg-registered private equity investment fund providing growth capital to small and medium-sized enterprises in Cambodia and Laos.


Investment Manager - Myanmar

We are now seeking an investment professional with appropriate private equity experience to join our growing investment team in the role of Investment Manager - Myanmar. The role will also offer exposure to the Cambodian and Lao markets and as the most senior investing role in Myanmar for our firm, will report directly to the CIO/CEO.


Responsibilities

• Leadership and development of the new Myanmar office, including building and training of the local team;

• Management of the full deal process for Myanmar-based deals, from pipeline development and opportunity analysis, through exit planning, deal structuring and valuation, sponsor negotiation and preparation of Investment Committee proposals;

• Post-investment support and value addition, including development of governance standards and alignment with exit requirements;

• Appropriate support to local office compliance and reporting;

• Building the brand and reputation of EMIa as a leader in ethical and professional SME investing.

The position would be substantially located in Yangon, Myanmar, with some travel in the region.


Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum of 5 years’ private equity experience, including deal structuring responsibility;

• Willingness to live in Myanmar and travel as required to Singapore, Lao PDR and Cambodia;

• Excellent academic qualifications in a relevant business or financial field and strong financial analysis and modelling skills;

• Familiarity with investing in emerging markets;

• Myanmar language skills and/or in-country experience and networks would be an advantage;

• Excellent written English capability;

• Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills;

• High ethical and professional standards; experience in applying ESG standards will be advantageous.

Investment Officers – Myanmar, Cambodia, Lao PDR

We are seeking to build our team of investment professionals in each of our markets, with the addition of Investment Officers to be based in both our Cambodia and Myanmar offices. The Investment Officer role offers the opportunity for talented and motivated finance professionals to enter the exciting, developing market of private equity investing in our countries of operation.


Responsibilities

• Contributing to the team’s investment capabilities in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar;

• Support to the full deal process, from pipeline development and opportunity analysis, through exit planning, deal structuring and valuation and preparation of Investment Committee proposals;

• Close involvement with portfolio companies in post-investment support and monitoring;

• Financial modelling and other analysis in support of deal evaluation and agreement with sponsors on growth strategies;

• Appropriate support to local office compliance and reporting;

• Assessment of deal pipeline environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues and support to development of necessary action plans;

• Building the brand and reputation of EMIa as a leader in ethical and professional SME investing.

Roles will be available in both Cambodia and Myanmar offices, serving our Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar markets and will include both on the job and formal training.


Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in a relevant business or financial field, with additional accounting or other qualifications (ACCA, CFA etc.) preferred; financial modelling skills essential;

• Familiarity with and networks in, the business environment of one or more of our core markets;

• Strong desire to pursue private equity investing into SMEs as a career;

• Local language skills highly desirable, as well as excellent written English capability;

• Excellent analytical (including financial modelling capabilities)

• Strong interpersonal skills and confidence to interact and negotiate with potential investee entrepreneurs;

Compliance and Reporting Officer – Cambodia-based

As we seek to build upon our compliance and reporting capabilities, in relation to the social and environmental performance and good governance of our funds’ portfolio companies, EMIa wishes to create the dedicated role of Compliance and Reporting Officer to support these functions.


Responsibilities

• Leading the team’s assessment and due diligence of potential investee companies, on matters of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG), labour practices, health and safety and business integrity;

• Assisting portfolio companies in developing management systems to achieve and maintain high standards in each of these areas, including through the development and implementation of specific Portfolio Company Action Plans;

• Supporting portfolio companies and the EMIa team in monitoring and reporting on each of these areas;

• Support to the EMIa investment team throughout the full deal process, from pipeline development and opportunity analysis, through exit planning, deal structuring and valuation, preparation of investment proposals and development of ESG-related content for investment agreements;

• Appropriate support to local office (Cambodia, Myanmar) compliance and reporting, including but not limited to ESG-related matters.

• The role will be based in Phnom Penh and will serve our Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar markets, as well as our Singapore head office. Both on-the-job and formal training will be provided.


Qualifications & Experience

• Relevant study (to Bachelor’s level or an equivalent technical qualification) and working experience in relation to ESG and knowledge of relevant ESG guidelines, including the IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability and Environmental, Health and Safety Guidelines;

• Attention to detail and excellent organisational and project management skills;

• Good written English skills and report-writing capability;

• Local language skills and familiarity with one or more of EMIa’s target markets;

• High ethical and professional standards.
