Vishnu Law Group is a Phnom Penh-based private law firm registered with the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Vishnu’s mission is to contribute to the protection of environment and transparent use of natural resources and to contribute to the legal and judicial reform of Cambodia. Vishnu currently is seeking qualified Cambodian nationals and international candidates for the multiple positions listed below to support its expanding casework and its work to support the Ministry of Environment in the creation of a new Environmental Code for Cambodia. Vishnu offers a competitive remuneration package.


1. Duties and Requirement

Lawyer (Multiple Positions for national candidates)

Main responsibilities:

• Conduct all aspects of the cases, including research, developing evidence, litigation, negotiation, and work with clients including rural communities.

• Undertake development of selected strategy of the cases and other initiatives to promote more effective implementation of laws.

• Provide supervision and support to other legal staff and casework.

• Train non-lawyers on legal rights and remedies under Cambodian law.

• Network with stakeholders on a case-by-case basis.

• Travel to the provinces, which could sometimes fall on holiday or weekend.


Qualifications and Experience:

• Hold at least a bachelor’s degree of law.

• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

• Trainee lawyer or Attorney-at-Law of the Bar Association of Cambodia.

• Previous legal experience, working on land or natural resources issues a plus.

• Strongly motivated and committed to public interest law work.

• Willingness to travel to the provinces.

• Computer literacy, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

• Possess team spirit and easy-going personality.

• Working knowledge of English a plus.


Legal Assistant (Multiple Positions for national candidates)

Main responsibilities:

• Gather and analyze research data, such as statutes, decisions, and legal articles and analysis, case-specific evidence and documents.

• Prepare and draft legal documents for cases such as complaints, subpoenas, interrogatories, deposition notices, pretrial orders, and legal briefs with various parties.

• Research and prepare written and oral analysis of legal policy issues.

• Write annual and quarterly reports and other related documents.

• Assist the lawyer in preparing for trials, hearings, and other procedures.

• Perform other assigned tasks as required.

• Travel to the provinces, which could sometimes fall on holiday or weekend.


Qualifications and Experience:

• Hold a bachelor’s degree of law.

• Have a strong command of English, both spoken and written.

• Have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and under pressure.

• Have some experience with national and international law firm or legal project, including producing written materials in English.

• Experience in environmental, land and rule of law/rights issues a plus.

• Possess team spirit and easy-going personality.


Legal Researcher (Multiple Positions for national candidates)

Main responsibilities:

• Conduct legal research on a range of environmental, legal and economic issues.

• Gather and analyze a wide range of data, such as statutes, decisions, legal articles, reports, news media and other sources.

• Prepare and draft documents presenting research findings.

• Provide translating, interpreting and minute taking of meetings as needed.

• Travel to the provinces, which could fall on the holiday or weekend too.


Qualifications and Experience:

• Hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

• Have a strong command of English, both spoken and written.

• Have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and under pressure.

• Have previous work experience conducting research, drawing conclusions, making recommendations, and presenting findings. Legal experience a plus.

• Possess team spirit and easy-going personality.


Translator (Multiple Positions for national candidates)

Main responsibilities:

• Translate high level legal and policy documents from English to Khmer and from Khmer to English.

• Interpret in meetings for international experts.

• Research legal instruments.

• Take meeting minutes and write report of the meeting.

• Perform other assigned tasks where required.

• Travel to the provinces, which may fall on the holiday or weekend.


Qualifications and Experience:

• Hold a bachelor degree of English.

• Have a strong command of English, both speaking and writing.

• Have some experience with interpretation and translating.

• Have experiences translating legal or scientific documents a plus.

• Have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and under pressure.

• Possess team spirit and easy-going personality.


Project Coordinator (international candidates)

Main responsibilities:

• Contribute to and support the conduct of all aspects Vishnu’s case and policy work.

• Assist in the planning and implementation of meetings, workshops and other events.

• Participate in the development of activity reports and other key documents.

• Contribute to the general operation of the office as necessary.

• Liaise with civil society, development partners, government, private sector and other stakeholders in Vishnu’s work.

• Monitor and evaluate work undertaken to identify means of improvement and to ensure effectiveness compliance with work plan requirements and project deadlines.

• Perform other assignments as required.


Qualifications and Experience:

• Hold a bachelor degree in a relevant subject. A master’s degree or higher a plus.

• Native or completely fluent English speaker.

• Experience working on legal and environmental issues a strong plus.

• Have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and under pressure.

• Possess team spirit and easy-going personality.


IT Expert (One position for national candidates)

Main Responsibilitie:

• Maintain computer systems, including upgrading and resolving error of network or local printer problems, PC hardware problems, e-mail, Internet, and other issues.

• Upload documents to website, and maintain and upgrade website.

• Maintain data management of cases and other activities.

• Performing other assigned tasks where required.


Qualifications and Experience:

• Hold a bachelor’s degree of Information Technology or other relevant degree.

• Be able to speak English fluently.

• Have previous work experience with similar IT issues.

• Have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and under pressure.

• Possess team spirit and easy-going personality.
