What do you think about young people playing games online?

Keo Chansras Pisey, 20

Law student at the Royal University of Law and Economics

Modern technology is good and useful, and young Cambodians who play games online are simply doing what young people all over the world are doing. But, playing games costs money, and players may be tempted to commit illegal acts such as stealing to pay for it. So it is not bad for people to play games online for fun and relaxation, but playing them as gambling is wrong.

Jou Mony Vannak, 22

Shipping assistant at Ho Year Garment Limited

I don’t believe online games are bad. I always play them to release stress, but I never forget my studies. We are adults, and online games are just an entertaining diversion from study or work. But they’re not good for children, because their thought processes are immature. For this reason, people under 18 should not play games online.

Long Ravy, 21

Assistant webmaster at Radio Voice of Democracy (VOD)

Online games have both positive and negative points. If people use them in a proper way, they can update their lives with modern game technology; they can be flexible in everything. But playing games online can make people addicted, just like drugs can. They will waste their time, their money, and some good opportunities. Most important, online games will seriously affect their study if they don’t manage their time properly.

Thy Sothea, 23

Position: medical student at the International University

I don’t like playing games online because it is not real, and I like something that is real and has benefits for me. I just play a football game that is installed on my computer, and I play it for fun. Whenever I win the game, I stop playing it, because I just want to show that I have the ability to win the game.

Ly Ka, 18

Position:  cashier at a Korean restaurant in the  Pencil shopping centre

Playing games online is fun, and I like to do it, even though I have little free time. Most  people play games when they have time off from work or study, or when they feel bored. Anyway, playing games online can teach us more about how to use the internet. But we have to spend money to play them.
