A first draft on clinical guidelines for maternal and child health, which includes

a chapter on safe abortion, has been drawn up by the National Reproductive Health

Program (NRHP). It focuses on birth spacing and includes sections on prenatal care,

safe delivery and pain control. The safe-abortion chapter was modeled on WHO guidelines.

NRHP director Dr Chhun Long said the guidelines on abortion techniques would prove

useful for doctors and prevent deaths from hemorrhaging.
