US drugs manufacturer Gilead Sciences has launched a program to expand access on
a non-profit basis to its anti-HIV drug, Viread, in developing countries including
Cambodia. The company said that Viread, which sufferers take only once a day, had
proved effective in suppressing HIV. Its new price of $39 a month compares with Thai-made
generic combination therapies which cost $30.
