Former Khmer Rouge head of state Khieu Samphan will remain in detention at the Khmer Rouge tribunal for at least another year after judges on Friday dismissed a request for his release. In their filing, judges claimed there were "well-founded reasons" to believe Khieu Samphan committed the crimes he is charged with and said his detention is still a necessary measure. They also acknowledged the need to protect Khieu Samphan and preserve public order.
