In Brief: Lightning blamed for 79 deaths in 2009

So far in 2009, there have been 60 reported cases of lightning strikes hitting people, resulting in 79 deaths and 22 serious injuries, said Chao Lay, an assistant to the second deputy president at the National Committee for Disaster Management, adding that lightning had also killed 19 domestic cattle.
