An electric crematorium at Wat Russey Sanh, on the outskirts of Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district, will officially open next Wednesday, after officials in the capital ordered the closure of all crematoriums in central Phnom Penh, citing health and environmental concerns. Following the crematorium’s opening, city officials will close fuel-based crematoriums at Wat Ounalom, Wat Lanka, Wat Koh, Wat Tuol Tumpong and Wat Preah Put Meanbon, said Phan Davy, the Phnom Penh Municipal director of the Department of Cults and Religions.
