Co-prosecutors

at the Khmer Rouge tribunal formally submitted their appeal against

S-21 prison chief Kaing Guek Eav (Duch) Friday, five days ahead of

their deadline, according to a statement. The appeal claims charges

against Duch are too narrow, failing to account for his role in "a

significant number of crimes that occurred as part of a criminal

enterprise inside S-21". The statement also requested the appeal be

determined on written evidence alone, sparing the need for an oral

hearing.
