A Pursat man was gored to death by a newly purchased buffalo as he transported it home on Wednesday night, police said.

According to the victim’s wife, Han Rozany, her husband, Mat Les, 45, had just bought the male buffalo in Kampong Chhnang province and was taking it back to their house in Krakor district, only to have the beast attack him when it got off the truck.

“It wanted to eat grass at the nearby paddy field, [but] it started attacking my husband,” she said.

“My husband’s intention was to buy and raise the buffalo, and use it to plough the farm,” she continued, adding that the beast will be killed and served at her husband’s funeral.

“According to the results of the body examination, there are three fatal wounds – two on the right side of his chest, one on the left,” Krakor district deputy police chief Em Run said.
