The US State Department upgraded Cambodia's ranking from Tier 3 to Tier 2 in its annual trafficking report, which was released June 11. The State Department cited improved efforts to stop trafficking as its reason. The report noted that Phnom Penh needs to take further steps, including enacting a comprehensive anti-trafficking law. Cambodian human rights groups generally welcomed the reclassification, but agreed the country needs to do more. The move to means Cambodia will not face US government sanctions.
