The Council of Ministers approved a sub-decree June 27 to take 402,000 hectares of the Central Cardamoms mountain range out of production forest, run by logging concessions, and make it a protected forest. Conservation International said the decision was based on the area's rich bio-diversity and its critical watershed value. It said the sub-decree would become law once it was signed by the Prime Minister, hopefully by mid-July.
