The new UN-Asian Development Bank report "Millennium Development Goals: Progress
in Asia and the Pacific 2007" says Cambodia made strong progress since 1990
in children's education and HIV-AIDS prevention but performed poorly in environmental
protection and children's health. It said between 1990 and 2005 the mortality rate
of children under 5 rose by nearly 25%, from 115/000 deaths to 143/000, and there
was a 14% percent loss in the country's forest cover.
