Commune Elections delayed

The National Election Committee (NEC) has announced that the long-delayed Commune

Elections would be postponed again until 2002. The NEC said the postponement was

necessary in order to complete the voter registration process. Commune Elections

were originally scheduled for the aftermath of the UNTAC-supervised national elections

of 1993.
