A 54-year-old construction worker was killed when a one-tonne foundation column fell and crushed him while building a house in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district on Sunday. Koul Sothat, Boeung Keng Kang I commune police chief, said Monday that the victim Some Khorn, 54, from Kampong Cham province’s Prey Chhor district,  was killed instantly when the column collapsed on him after it wasn’t secured properly. He added that the victim’s family was given US$3,000 in compensation from the project’s contractor, in addition to an undisclosed amount of money from the homeowner.
