Four Taiwanese and a Cambodian were arrested in separate drug raids on a smuggling
ring on July 25 and 26. The Ministry of Interior said police seized 8 kg of opium
alkaloids and around 1 kg of amphetamines. Sam Ngoun, a 51-year old tourist police
officer, faces up to ten years in jail and a $12,500 fine. Cambodian and Taiwanese
authorities are still discussing whether to deport the Taiwanese suspects or try
them here. All five remain in the municipal jail.
