Fourteen men were detained and fined on Sunday for killing an endangered wild deer in Banteay Meanchey, according to local police. The wild deer escaped from the Tra Peang Thmar reserve and entered a village in Phnom Srok district where the men chased and killed it after it fell into a pond, according to Keo Savuth, a district police officer. He added the offenders were fined 5.5 million riels (about US$1,370) and educated on endangered animals.
