Life on the road can be rough for mid-career movie starlets thumping for garment

workers' rights. Sources say that Minnie Driver spent four hours at the Sapors beauty

spa on Street 154 near the new Sorya Shopping Mall. The good news is that, according

to Minnie, Sapors gets a two thumbs up rating. She was heard to have said: "It

was the best facial makeover I've ever had."

** What's wrong with this picture? A white guy goes to the main Post Office and asks

a clerk how much it will cost to mail a parcel to Europe. The clerk checks the package,

determines its weight is 90 grams and tells the expat customer that it will cost

US$35 (that's 140,000 Riels).

The white guy mutters to himself: haven't I seen this drill somewhere before? Because

the white guy has a Khmer wife and has lived here for a bunch of years and is fluent

in Khmer, he decides to approach the issue from the local language perspective. He

wonders aloud to the clerk in Khmer whether or not the price might be a bit high.

The clerk catches his drift, re-checks the package and says with a smile: Yes, this

package will cost you 8,000 Riels to send to Europe.

** Shark Tank Mart aficionados be advised. Having successfully resolved the potential

Jay Steed hostage taking crisis over the shortage of Roast Beef sandwiches, as reported

in detail in this column on April 25, 2003, Shark Tank Mart management are now on

the verge of opening a 24-hour Sub Window where customers can order sandwiches any

ole which way they want. Easy on the Mayo, hold the Pickle, dump on the Dijon, you

name it, 'round the clock. How about that!

The Big Pickle on the Roast Beef Sandwich Supply Crisis Committee was contacted for

comment. A spokesman responded: "Aaargh."

** Could the Mobitel leadership please explain what the problem is with accessing

their network?

Here's the rub. You sit in a room with four phones, two are on the 012 system, one

is on 011 and another is 016. The two 012 phones can call each other, but all too

often neither the 011 nor the 016 can get a call through to the 012 numbers. The

011 can call the 016 and vice versa, but try and reach an 012 number-good luck.

Mobile phone users are muttering conspiracy.
