Prime Minister Hun Sen has proposed the creation of special economic zones in

border areas of the Mekong states to tap the human and material resources to boost

regional development. Hun Sen suggests zones around border checkpoints where current

economic activity is nominal or non-existent, according to the Business News newspaper.

Hun Sun was presiding at an international conference on the Mekong Region.
