The Khmer Rouge tribunal will hold a public hearing today as the former foreign minister of Democratic Kampuchea, Ieng Sary, appeals the extension of his provisional detention. The proceedings, set to begin at 9am, will be followed on Friday with an appeal hearing for former head of state Khieu Samphan, and on Monday with an appeal hearing for former social action minister Ieng Thirith. The court will provide free transportation to the hearings from Phnom Penh for those who register in advance, and the Documentation Centre of Cambodia plans to take villagers from Banteay Meanchey, Svay Rieng and Kandal provinces to observe the proceedings.
