India's 47th Independence Day celebrations held on Aug. 15 started with a flag raising

ceremony at the Indian Embassy. A guard of honour was presented by a section of the

4 JAK Rif Jawans and the battalion's band played the National Anthem.

Ambassador Bhandari then read a message from the President of India HE Dr. Shankar

Dayal Sharma paying tributes to the nearly 2,000 members of India's contingent to

UNTAC.
