The government's chief Khmer Rouge trial negotiator Sok An will leave for New York
on January 4 to re-start the stalled tribunal talks. That came after the UN General
Assembly voted overwhelmingly on December 18 to approve a resolution to re-enter
talks, after the UN pulled out of discussions on February 8, 2002. The UN's Office
of Legal Affairs has 90 days from the Assembly's vote to conclude an agreement with
Cambodia on the tribunal's
final form.
