Mekong Airlines, one of the country's newest air carriers, was sold to a Malaysian
company in July. TR Weekly, a regional travel industry journal, reported on August
6 that former operations manager Anthony Sandford had confirmed the deal. Mekong
Airlines began operations late last year, but was hit by fears over the SARS virus,
the global economic slowdown, and the war in Iraq. The company's sole plane had been
grounded since May.
