Health Minister Mam Bunheng will receive an award from the World Health Organisation on World “No Tobacco Day” on Tuesday in recognition of his work on tobacco control in the Kingdom, according to a WHO statement released yesterday. The statement noted recent reforms such as the inclusion of health warnings on cigarette packs and a ban on advertising tobacco products due to come into force in July. WHO country director Pieter van Maaren said yesterday that tobacco control laws and higher taxes for tobacco products were positive next steps for curbing smoking rates.
