The minister for Social Affairs is pushing for Cambodia to sign the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, he said at a conference on landmine victims yesterday. Social Affairs minister Ith Sam Heng told the conference that signing the convention would help the government to cooperate with development partners to provide support and show respect to people with disabilities.
More than 60,000 Cambodians had been maimed or killed by landmines and unexploded ordinance since the Khmer Rouge were overthrown in 1979, 2010 figures from the Cambodian Mine Victims Information System show.
