Cambodia's two senior Buddhist clerics have told monks not to vote in the July 2003

general election. The supreme patriarchs of the Mohannikay and Thommayut sects, Tep

Vong and Bou Kry, urged monks to stay out of politics. Some monks took part in bloody

demonstrations that were held after the 1998 election.
