Human Rights Watch criticized the Cambodian government September 25 for sealing its
border with Vietnam to ethnic minority asylum seekers, and accused Phnom Penh of
deporting more than 400 Montagnards since April. The US-based organization urged
that donors make sure Cambodia respects its obligations under international law and
provides asylum. HRW also called on the UN refugee agency to re-establish its field
offices in the country's north-east. Around 1,000 Montag-nards who fled to Cambodia
last year were allowed to resettle in the US earlier this year.
