Japan began talks with the government over the construction of a new bridge across the Mekong at the town of Neak Loeung, 63 kilometers east of Phnom Penh. Travelers moving between Phnom Penh and the Vietnamese border currently have to cross the river by ferry. The Cambodian government estimates it will cost at least $100 million.
