News Briefs: Fire destroys homes

A fire destroyed at least 33 homes in Chak Angre Leu commune near Phnom Penh by the

Monivong Bridge on November 5. The blaze began from what residents said were burning

incense candles. Police said six firetrucks arrived to fight the fire. Several residents

claimed the firemen demanded about $150 before attempting to douse the flames. The

firemen denied the accusations.
