Liberal International (LI) has accused the government of launching “politically motivated attacks” against lawmakers for the opposition Sam Rainsy Party, after the Supreme Court last week upheld SRP lawmaker Mu Sochua’s defamation conviction in a case pitting her against Prime Minister Hun Sen. “The Court’s ruling, despite the sheer lack of evidence against Mu Sochua, shows the court did not base its decision on an independent and impartial application of the facts to the elements of the law, but instead bowed to political manipulation,” reads an LI statement released Thursday.
