Police on May 4 arrested suspected kidnapper Hout Ravuth in Kaun Damy village, O'Chroeu

district, Battambang. Ravuth sustained gunshot wounds to his leg during the arrest.

Ravuth is allegedly the head of a kidnapping gang that extracted a $140,000 ransom

for abducted SRP legislator Lon Phon in Oct 1999. The kidnapping was described by

SRP officials at the time as politically motivated.
