Regarding Michael Vickery's assertion that the Khmer Rouge, "whatever their

own sins, managed to keep (rape and violations against women) ... at an absolute

minimum ... (Letters to the Editor, "Wrong on Gottesman,"). Actually, rape

was commonplace under the Khmer Rouge. Perhaps the euphemism of "forced marriage"

has simply blinded observers to this fact.
