Rin to trial

Former Khmer Rouge commander Chhouk Rin has been summoned to appear in the Appeal

Court on August 28. Rin will stand trial for his involvement in the 1994 ambush of

a Sihanoukville bound train which resulted in the deaths of 13 Cambodians and three

Western backpackers. Rin was acquitted of the charges on July 18, 2000 on the basis

of a KR amnesty. The decision was widely criticized at the time.
