The long-awaited demobilization program cutting 30,000 soldiers from the army's payroll

begins October 15 in Kampong Chhnang. The World Bank is the biggest funder, contributing

$18.4 million to the $42 million cost. Half of the cuts take place this year, the

rest early 2002.
