Contestants mull their moves in the final of the first Khmer Chess Tournament on May 4 in Phnom Penh. The two-day competition, jointly hosted by the Cambodian Chess Association and the Olympic Committee of Cambodia, aimed to standardize the rules of the ancient game – a variant of the chess introduced to Southeast Asia many centuries ago – and encourage new players to get involved.
