Teachers protest

More than 200 teachers protested low salaries outside the National Assembly on December

16. They demanded wage rises from around $30 to $100 a month. Rong Chhun, president

of the Cambodian Independent Teachers' Association, said the government had not yet

responded, and warned a nationwide strike would be called for February 2003 if their

concerns were not addressed.
