January 7 marks Victory Day over Genocide, the day Vietnamese troops entered Phnom
Penh and officially ended the Khmer Rouge regime. The government threatened to shut
down a local newspaper over its reference to Vietnam Liberation Day. Cambodians have
mixed feelings about the day: some celebrate the overthrow of Pol Pot; others see
Vietnam as an invader.
