"Neither a lender nor a borrower be” is a maxim an unfortunate food seller in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district should perhaps have taken to heart before being attacked on Saturday by a woman to whom she owed more than $1,000.

The 28-year-old told her enraged creditor, 40, she didn’t have the cash, at which point the latter allegedly smeared her face with chilli and hit her on the head. The attacker escaped and is being sought by police.

The victim is suspected of having obtained the loan fraudulently.
