A man became a pawn in a plantation worker’s game of drunken violence in Pailin town on Monday after a game of chess.

Fresh from a drinking session, the two men decided to challenge each other to a game.

If sober, the pair perhaps could have thought two moves ahead and averted the inevitable.

Instead, their competitiveness descended into violence, with the plantation worker smashing his opponent, 35, across the face.

He fled, only to return later to administer another beating. NOKORWAT
