Drunk driver skates after hitting scavenger

A drunken driver careened his car into a 25-year-old scavenger late on Wednesday night in Phnom Penh’s Daun Penh district, police said.

The recycling collector was sent flying about 6 metres and knocked unconscious. The driver sped from the scene to Preah Ket Mealea military hospital, where angry witnesses caught up with him and attempted to seek a little extrajudicial justice.

Instead, security guards intervened, and while the driver was questioned, he was allowed to leave without being arrested. The victim is recovering in hospital. KOH SANTEPHEAP
